Tracking visitors to your site w/ Google Analytics

Although your LiveDesigner Suite website doesn’t have the ability to track visitors as a built in feature, there are some great free services out there that actually will track this information for you.

One of the best services is called “Google Analytics” from Google, and this service will be able to tell you how many visitors you receive, what parts of your site they visit, how long they stay on your website, and even how they found / came to your site.

1. Go to http://www.google.com/analytics/
2. Sign up for a free Google account, or sign in if you already have one
3. Sign up for the Google Analytics service
4. Enter the URL of your LDS website and name the profile
5. Enter your contact info
6. Agree to the Terms of Service
7. The final page, Tracking Instructions, will have some HTML code
a. Copy all the code exactly as it appears from the “New Tracking Code” area
b. Log in to your LiveDesigner Suite admin site at www.punchsystems.com
c. From the left hand side, click on Others -> Site Metrics
d. Click Add to create a new entry
e. Name your tracking code “Google”
f. Paste the HTML you copied from Google into the box where is says Script
g. Click Save

Now, after a day or two, Google will start to report on traffic that is coming to your site. You can view this information by going back to www.google.com/analytics and logging in to view the reports.
