I have a customer requesting metallic thread, any tips or tricks I will need to know before I sew with it?

Use a new needle...if there are any dings or rough edges, you'll really notice it with metallic. I usually run it a bit slower than regular thread. Metallic has improved a lot over the years. The Amaya has metallic settigs for sewing...use them.
Typically, I use a lower density. Not much but some. Dpends on what I am doing. If you do a fill, don't make the stitch longer than 45 points. The thread has a tendancy to more problems with longer stitches.
The brand of thread you use will determine the problems you are going to have. Metallic has a tendacy to stretch and then pull back into a mess. Keeping a constant tension is important. Not too tight as to stretch and bunch. Some people use a mesh slipped over the cone to help with this issue. Again, it depends on the brand of thread you use. Over the years, I have tried several. One bunches badly, one shreds and one flies out of the needle after a trim. I guess I can say this since Melco no longer sells thread.....I prefer Robison-Anton metallic. I really don't like the rest of their thread. I don't have to do anything special except to do the settings on the machine. The best part was that it sells for a better price than most metallics.

I have used both KingStar and Marathon threads - both are fairly cost effective in the larger cones however I have found that the Marathon thread to be less problematic.

New needle as Jan said - definitely. I use metallic a lot lately (since my machine actually works) and I have had no real issues.

Cheers
